Cetrorelix Acetate is a synthetic (man-made) hormone that is used to block the effects of a hormone called gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). One of GnRH's functions in the body is to control luteinizing hormone (LH), which starts ovulation.
Hormone treatments for fertility sometimes can lead to premature ovulation, which results in eggs being released that are not ready to be fertilized. Cetrorelix prevents the eggs from being released early so they have time to mature.
